Any existing Sherline lathe can be converted to CNC-ready status. The installation will involve drilling and tapping several holes to attach the stepper motor mounts. The kits include drill blocks that are attached to the appropriate table or bed using the single existing hole, and then two new holes are drilled using the block as a guide. The holes are tapped, and the new mount is installed. In the case of the lathe leadscrew, a new leadscrew must also be installed. Complete instructions for the conversion are supplied with the kits.

What does “CNC-Ready” mean
CNC-ready means the machine is ready to bolt on stepper motors and apply CNC control to them by means of a system that the user must supply. If you cannot develop your own CNC system, several aftermarket suppliers offer stepper motors, drivers, and CNC software to complete the system.
